Bio

Matt Welsh is a drum set player based in Ottawa, Ontario. Proficient in Jazz, Funk, Rock, and Fusion, Matt has been playing professionally and teaching for the last decade. 

Matt studied for four years in the Bachelor of Music Program at Carleton University, capping it off with his grad recital in 2016. He came up through the studio of Chuck Burrows, and also took part in masterclasses directed by Jane Burnett, Hamid Drake, William Parker, and Mike Rud during his time at Carleton.

Stand-out performances in the past few years for Matt include accompanying the Canadian Centennial Choir in September, 2015 for their "CCC Grooves" concert, and again in December of 2015 for "The Twelve Days of Christmas"; his Graduation Recital at Carleton University in April, 2016 where he unveiled his own Jazz-Fusion  project, PreDestined; performing Chicago with the Carleton Music Theatre Society;  and a performance with the ByTowne Big Band in a Buddy Rich Tribute Concert; 

As an educator, Matt keeps the classroom light-hearted and relaxed, but still maintains a focused and professional atmosphere to help each student reach their potential and beyond.  In the classroom, he instills a strong sense of technique and reading to give each student a strong foundation on which to build.
